At the checkpoints of the Kherson Seaport Administration, there were installed radiation portal monitors controlling background radiation. The press office of the state enterprise of the Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) reports that the seaport has received the equipment in the framework of the agreement between Ukraine and U.S.A. on the assistance in preventing the spread of radioactive materials through the border. Special-purpose equipment registers excess background radiation, upon which an alarm goes off, automatically activating a video camera for capturing an object and its later identification. It is planned that similar equipment will be installed in all of the seaports with a high volume of cargo processing. The enterprise personnel are also subject to such control.
